Spiders roam free after office raid

A pair of tarantulas and a python were set loose during a break-in at the Woburn Safari Park site.
Thieves smashed the vivarium containment tanks in the education centre during the overnight raid on Saturday August 5, leaving the animals to roam the building freely.
Staff recovered Monty the two-foot Royal Python but the two spiders are still at large. The intruders stole five computers, five radios, two laptops and a digital projector.
They later made off in a red Land Rover Defender belonging to the park after apparently discovering the keys in the offices.
Chief Executive Chris Webster says staff were very upset at the possibility of losing the python, but were
delighted when it was discovered in a nearby office.
“Staff get very attached to the animals so it was a relief,” he continued. “The two spiders are still around the site somewhere but they are not lethal, even if they have a nasty bite. We use them for educational purposes.”
The break-in was discovered when cleaners arrived early on Sunday morning. A set of fire doors in the restaurant had been forced open, but the alarm had not sounded because the motion sensor had been disabled. When Chris was called out along with
security they discovered the missing items and the smashed tanks. The education office was ransacked.
Chris added: “The computers being stolen is definitely a nuisance, but we have all the information stored on the system. There isn’t much else worth stealing now.”
A similar break-in occurred over Easter when thieves also targeted the cash machine
